>From Cohousing Association of the U.S. Lyons Valley Village Needs Our Help The Denver Post reported on November 3rd that the September floods in Colorado "took nine lives, damaged 26,000 homes, destroyed more than 1,800 homes, damaged 765 businesses, destroyed 203 businesses, damaged or destroyed almost 500 miles of road" as well as causing significant damage to other infrastructure and croplands. Six weeks after the floods, the small town of Lyons Colorado was still without utilities, with 20% of its homes damaged, most businesses shuttered and all the roads in closed to the general public. The cohousing community of Lyons Valley Village was directly in the path of the September 12th flooding. The residents Lyons Valley Village report on their website that "We know that we will be displaced from our homes for many months as we are still without all town utilities: sewer, water, gas and electric." Yet they also want to assure us that their "spirit is strong" and that they are "resolved to come through this experience with strength, courage, perseverance and resilience." With winter fast approaching, our fellow cohousers at Lyons Valley Village are in need of support. CohoUS asks that if you are in a position to render assistance; be it skills, materials, cash or prayers; this small cohousing community at the base of the Rocky Mountains would be grateful.
