Oh I hope we'd never do such a thing!!

Our very successful meals program is such that the cook decides.

Most cooks do something helpful for people who want meat if the cook doesn't or
don't want meat if the cook does (often vegetarians ask the assistant cook to
make the meat, or buy it already prepared).
Most try to make gluten free and dairy free available (both with and without
meat). Most try to make fruity dessert choices along with those that used
processed sugars. Everyone labels ingredients (almost all the time).

The only rule is don't chop nuts in the common house.

Since we have three meals a week, I can skip a meal that doesn't meet my needs.
Since I live 48 steps from the common house, I can bring food that I do eat to
supplement a meal that isn't my style.

The evils of a community definition of a healthy diet go in two directions:

-one is the presumption that people who get sick do so because they at the
wrong diet. We have that here.

-the other is the presumption that people who try to stick to a diet that works
for them are wrong because the science says that 92% of people don't have that
problem. We have that here too.

I'll stick to my view that food is not medicine and appropriate diets are not
universal.
