We have two issues we discussed ad nauseum this winter--does the ice that collects in the corners of roofs that turn 90 degrees signify that we have ice damns? (And thus, should they be removed?) AND whose job is it to remove snow from the roofs of porches when it goes above the flashing around the windows and at the intersection of the porch and the building? It is clear in both cases that it is the HOA's responsibility...but should the HOA ask each homeowner to do the work, assign the BNG team to do the work, look for volunteers to do the work, or hire outside help to do the work? And we have still not resolved the answer to those questions. There is much hope that we won't have another winter like this one (some people's second story windows were completely blocked by the snow on the porch). Was last winter a one in a hundred years, or a preview of how climate change will alter our local weather? We don't really know. In any case I'm in the "hire it out" camp but we have used some combination of get some volunteers, and wait until it melts. -Liz (The Rev.) Elizabeth M.
