Hi Beverly, maybe open a dialog about what problems the rule is meant to
address (5 y/o's playing ninja with the kitchen knives, and many other
things that have been mentioned in this thread), and ask your community to
try to come up with a policy that would prevent those things, while
allowing a responsible 9 y/o to read a book in the CH. Of course, that's
probably exactly what you're doing....

I think a blanket "no kids under 13 w/o supervision" was probably a great
starting point when your community was new, and folks didn't know what
situations would come up. It's easy to spend way too much time on
hypotheticals that might never be an issue, so starting out with a basic,
simple safeguard was a good idea. Now it looks like it's time for your
community to work on a more nuanced approach, since things will always be
changing, with different kids of different ages.
