While it isn't co-housing, you might want to take a look at Community
First! in Austin, Texas, if you have not already done so. (
http://mlf.org/community-first/). It is a community for chronically
homeless people that, as the name implies, focuses on creating community.
It has received a lot of support from local businesses, design firms and
government. It is a delightful, creative, "affordable" (as if anything is
affordable around here anymore") solution that deserves a look. Seems like
it could be a good model. Come and visit - They are very gracious about
visitors, and I suspect they would be willing to share details on the
community structure.
