At Eastern Village Cohousing in Silver Spring, Maryland, our community is discussing the benefits and issues of a significant HOA fee increase. One of the counterpoint discussions was to create a sort of voluntary "slush fund" to provide residents with short term financial assistance in a time of need, if someone were to be laid off from work, or if another resident had an unexpected emergency appliance repair, for example. Such a fund would be entirely voluntary and there wold be no requirement for anyone to contribute toward anything. Is there any community that has created or uses any similar financial assistance program? If so, could you please explain your program so we could glean your community's wisdom? Thanks, ~Rodney Elin Eastern Village Cohousing, Silver Spring
