RoseWind Cohousing, long built in Port Townsend WA. 23 households. Our system is simplicity itself: it’s all volunteer. We have an expectation of participation, but no requirement. About a third of our members are dedicated worker bees— showing up for work parties, vegetable garden hours, meetings, committees and other major tasks. Maybe a third do minimal work (a few do none at all), for various reasons. And the rest are on a spectrum between the others. The work gets done, and participation is rewarding enough to keep it up. We have a good turnout for our monthly half-day business meeting, and for the work party that follows. Maraiah Lynn Nadeau
