Henning, thank you so much for your reply with all this good information. 

We do have a digital antenna. A lot of people are hooked up just to that. But 
the folks who watch TV in the common house want cable channels. MSNBC, yes, 
even CNN, C-SPAN, AMC, TNT, World Cup, Italian, soccer, etc..

Right now we use DIRECTV but it’s expensive. And it’s often out of service if 
there is a a lot of wind or rain.

One option would be to get a service like Sling which has all the channels that 
we want. It is significantly cheaper option than cable or satellite.  

You are very right about an antenna being a one time purchase and getting loads 
of channels. Certainly all the local ones.

I don’t know about this thing of people donating services. I understand how it 
works. I’m just a little wondering about the integrity of it. And goodness 
knows I copy parts of books when I need the information.  So I’m not a Pearl 
Pureheart about this. It is justIt is just raising questions in my Swiss cheese 
brain.
