Cohousers, I need to start by strongly denouncing the use of derogatory language on a recent post about racial diversity. The use of the N-word should never be used on a public forum. Period. No matter the context. The dialogue that is transpiring here is indication of the work that must be done. We must work against the use of racist stereotypes and microaggressions. The coalition (https://www.cohousing.org/coalition-for-racially-diverse-cohousing/) is designed to reflect on our lack of racial diversity in cohousing. We plan to ask questions, learn from one another and parallel movements, and envision a future where the demographics of cohousing reflect the demographics of the world that surrounds us. This is among the most important work that we can undertake as a movement for a more collective future. We can do better, and we must.
