I love Ria Moni's thoughts on making a sincere apology (https://riamoni.gumroad.com/). You do have to pay for her essay/infographic but I think that is MORE than appropriate given it is *her *work. I think that making statements like "comments can be easily misinterpreted" puts the burden on the person who is offended - i.e., I'm sorry you are offended, you must have misunderstood what I was intending.
