Both Lyle and Sharon's responses effectively say "we are already as diverse
as we can expect to be." How awful! Accepting that we are hurting others
and declaring defeat is NOT the answer!

Minorities, POC will *always* have work to do. They have no choice but to
endure micro-aggressions and a general lack of empathy, and figure out how
to live with it. Figure out whether they *can* live with it in cohousing.
They should not have to do this!

If you're here and you're interested in cohousing evolving into a more just
and equal society, then I would suggest the following are more productive:
We did not truly hear and understand what you were trying to convey. In the
future, we will assume concerns raised in our forums are valid and consider
how to address those concerns instead of considering whether the person has
the right temperament for our community. We will consider, "with my speech
right now, WHO am I helping? Am I being defensive, or am I actually
forwarding the mission of diversity in the community?" We will not change
the subject to some other oppressed group or some other anecdote.

I am extremely grateful to Crystal and Hafidha for contributing to the
conversation. They should not have to be doing this work.

Sophie
