Another thing is typing your text into a text editor. Word processors like Microsoft Word are notorious for this and it is a problem that has never been solved, although I agree one would think it would have been by now. But programs like Word have their own markup. Text editors (I recommend Notebook++ and it is open source) have minimal markup. I use text editors more than word processors these days. You can usually save in .txt or .rtf. Or, as was also suggested, type your messages directly into your email. I use a text editor when I want to save what I write.
