Hi, Kenneth at Milagro,

You asked: Does your community have bylaws that fully conform to your Cohousing
practices?
If so, has that approach caused any problems? If your community's bylaws do not
conform,
how do you explain that difference to new members?

I have lived at Wasatch Commons in Utah since 1998. We are the only cohousing
in our state. We are legally set up like a condominium. We follow Utah Condo
law and the cohousing way of life.

Kenneth, Is this coming up because of the annual meeting and your state condo
law requirements for the annual meeting? This is when it usually comes up for
our community.

Our community works hard to explain this to new members before they join our
community when possible. The US Cohousing Association<http://cohousing.org>
offers excellent monthly zoom meetings for people interested in cohousing. They
are called "The Commons." I think they do an excellent job. The next one is
tomorrow at 10:00 am MST.

We also have a document that outlines the differences between Condos and
Cohousing. We adapted it from I think Touchstone Cohousing in Ann Arbor, MI.
We also do a 3 part orientation for all new members after they move in.

We also have started a study group using Yana Ludwig and Karin Gimnig'g
Cooperative Handbook.

I hope these ideas help. Come and visit us at Wasatch Commons. You are not so
far away.
