We have had a hardship fund since 2010 to pay from 1 to 6 months of dues
for a member experiencing a temporary financial hardship. It is accounted
for in the equity section as a fund, right next to the reserve fund.
Donations come into the fund from member fund raisers and voluntary self
assesment. Members can only apply once in 5 years. It is administered
confidentially by a 3-person team of the treasurer, President, and one
member appointed by the president who does not have a financial interest in
the community. It has been used 4 times and each time, I (the treasurer)
was so glad we could help.
