To keep the cost down, the builder and some of us came up with a very limited
selection of finishes---I recall for instance a single paint color in all the
houses. Ha. The builder as the time for finishing got close did a lot of side
deals with individual owners to upgrade some things. Like one person got a
fireplace, think we got a choice to not do carpet but do laminate flooring on
first floor. And then a lot of people lived with the uniform color in the
beginning but then re-painted. We did it within the first year I think.

The outdoor colors I don't recall. Except that we did a lot of polling of the
community after deciding which blocks of houses would get different colors. I
do recall that we ended up repainting at least one block when the color--once
it went up--looked way different than on the patch. I THINK we, not the
builder, absorbed the cost of repainting since it was OUR paint choice we
didn't like

For cohousers in a newly constructed community or one under/nearing
constriction, how have members been involved with the builder in
influencing/affecting selection of unit finishes? Who and how were the choices
you could make determined?

Thanks,
