Mary Margaret Delaney asks:
<Could I please be updated on any cohousing communities in the country <that
have either/and/or rental housing or affordable housing, in general.

Here in Lexington, KY the shovels went in the ground in October for the
construction of the innocently named Wellington Park
Apartments<https://www.auassociates.com/portfolio/coming-soon/wellington-park-apartments>,
which, when completed in the first quarter of 2026, may become the nation's
first all-affordable rentals Senior Cohousing community.

Wellington Park Apartments - AU
Associates<https://www.auassociates.com/portfolio/coming-soon/wellington-park-apartments>
Wellington Park Apartments will be the creation of 45 innovative apartments
dedicated to seniors and designed in collaboration with Reimagining Home,
Lexington and Age Friendly Lexington.
www.auassociates.com

The Lexington-based affordable housing developer AU Associates has received
funding from both the city's Affordable Housing Trust Fund and the state's
Kentucky Housing
Corporation<https://us2.campaign-archive.com/?u=3829d29f9e95f6aa657f1c290&id=397e7652b2>.
Residents will have to be 55+ and have incomes of no more than 50% AMI. All
45 units will be fully ADA-compliant and have many other universal design
features to aid aging-in-place. A significant amount of common space has been
left blank with residents given a budget to fill in with their desired features.

AU's application to KHC was supported by a white
paper<https://www.agefriendlylexington.com/post/affordable-older-adult-cohousing>
written by a subcommittee of Reimagining
Home<https://www.agefriendlylexington.com/housing>, a group that I belong to
which is associated with Age-Friendly Lexington and the city's Senior Services
Commission.
