I appreciate all the comments thus far to Ty’s (who is a big supporter of Cohousing and served on the board of CohoUS for some years - thank you Ty) original comment suggesting (if I understood him correctly) that climate change is not the cause of the LA wildfires. Of course it is not the only factor, but I have not found a single trustworthy source that suggests that the changes we are seeing are not in any way a contributing factor. Even here in green New England we are thinking about how to build to be safer in the event of fire. One of the benefits of community (the ones we live in/work with and the larger national community of intentional communities) is that we have the opportunity to communicate with people we otherwise know and trust and to learn from each other. I hope you find my thoughts below helpful. Always happy to talk. (And if this prompts more email than most people want we can always create a side discussion). My preferred term is Climate Chaos. See this article from 2020 about naming what is going on. https://www.siegelgale.com/renaming-climate-change-can-a-new-name-finally-make-us-take-action/; Renaming climate change: Can a new name finally make us take action? siegelgale.com And my favorite movie these days especially ("Drill Baby Dril"l) is “Don’t Look Up”. If you haven’t seen it, you might like to organize a community viewing and discussion. You can learn more about the movie by putting the name into Wikipedia. Hoping that the rains in southern CA this week will put out the fires and not cause devastating avalanches. liz Liz Ryan Cole She/hers Planning Commission, Thetford, VT CohoUS, Board Member (these thoughts are mine alone and not those of the Board) Vermont Law School Professor Emerita Pinnacle Project Cohousing Loch Lyme Lodge and Cabins, Lyme, NH 802.274.1511 Mobile I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world.
