Re: Common House kitchen What has worked well in our Common House Kitchen. Open kitchen with decorative bar between kitchen and entry hall to main room (dining/meeting/game/exercise/social hall) Walk-in storage room for pots, trays, silverware opening off the kitchen. Propane cook-top. Double ovens giving us space for 5 evenly spaced shelves. Double sink with disposal in food prep counter Clean-up area with large single sink with disposal for dish washing with adjacent counter above the dish sanitizer that holds sanitizer racks. Sanitizer racks can be moved from sanitizer to a counter for drying by lifting and turning 45 degrees. Pull-out storage for plates and bowls under the drying area for sanitizer racks. Minimizes moving stacks of plates, bowls. Under-counter storage space for a rolling cart used to transfer dishes, serve food, etc. Shelves in the dining room for glasses, pitchers and cups. Easily accessible without entering kitchen itself. Microwave on counter in dining room, rather than in the kitchen. Cups stored above. Can be used without interfering with cooks’ space. We don’t use the swing-arm faucet over the cook-top for filling large pots. We would still have to carry heavy liquid-filled pots to the sink to be emptied. Expensive plumbing installation that hasn’t been useful. > On Mar 10, 2025, at 3:16 AM, cohousing-l-request [at] cohousing.org wrote: > > > > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8
