In DC we had an outage of 5-6 days and it was certainly true that we had enough
food to feed all of us for days. We had to eat quickly to keep it from
spoiling. The CH refrigerator was filled with ice.

Our water was not out, but water is one of the first things to think about. In
hurricane areas, people are told to keep gallons of water frozen all the time,
and to fill the bathtub with water immediately in case water mains are broken
later.

We had a generator to serve the CH so the refrigerator was on. Minimal
lighting. Charging stations for phones, computers, etc.

Since we are in a major metropolitan area it was unusual to have an outing that
long. We would normally have an outing of 1-3 hours with clear communications
about when it would be restored.
