Cohousing-L Mailing List: Forming community in Madison, WI

In Madison, WI there are already four well-established intentional
communities. A couple households are in the process of building another
one, in the form of an urban cohousing project.

Madison has a population of about 280,000 people. It's the capital of
the State and has a well-known university. The City leans left in its
politics, has a far-reaching bike path network, and a well-supported bus
transit system. Madison is situated in the middle of a system of
freshwater lakes and enjoys summer and winter activities on them. The
university is part of a state-wide health care system. The City is home
to two separate hackerspaces.

At the NTBD Project we intend to be on the smaller size, planning for
about 20 units. It's important to have enough people to do the work, but
not have so many it will take too long to make any decision. We already
have a developer, a lender, and a site under consideration. We've put
together a detailed financial analysis and estimate for the project, so
we know it's feasible. Everyone involved with the project intends to
live in the community once it's built.
