We've done well with mostly 8-top tables plus two 4-tops. Typically a
gaggle of younger kids congregate for meals at one bigger table and the
tweens grab a 4-top.

I strongly recommend having at least some chairs that people can hang a
cane, a tote bag, or a purse on without it sliding off. (Some visitors will
have a purse.) Ie, they have finials at each side of the backrest. About
1/4th of our dining chairs have those and they are very handy.
