I was the developer (and my firm was the architects) for Pleasant Hill Cohousing. Lessons learned the hard way: Never use decomposed granite (DG) for your main pathways People actually really don’t like gravel driveways/parking lot aisles even if they are more environmentally friendly. In another project, we were successful at using gravel in the parking spaces with asphalt for the drive lanes. Concrete and asphalt have their place… and good concrete central pathways will get lots of use, especially by the kids. Research has shown hard surfaces get much more play time than grassing areas.
