Here at Monterey Cohousing (in Minnesota) as an alternative to doing chores, etc folks have sometimes volunteered to pay for items for the community (grass seed, a HEPA vacuum, etc) or for services, for example, deep cleaning of Common Space once a month. We have had Work Fairs where folks would sign up for chores (3 major, 3 medium and 2 seasonal), or switch chores with others. In general, the concept was to provide eight hours of service a month. For s while we kept track of how much time folks put in but we don’t do that anymore.
