Jerry Here's the point, child of all ages need the opportunity to play with other kids at a variety of times, all during the day (not just when parents take them somewhere.). If children have a variety of options, the playground generally is the least likely place for children to hang out with others kids and "chase other kids around" or whatever. That's why I asked you where the other kids were playing in your neighborhood, while you were at the playground. In the study that I previously discussed, the kids were mainly hanging out at the neighborhood variety store rather than the playgrounds. This where a "mindfull" design comes in-with the necessary elements which produce an environment for children of all ages to come out of the home to play in and around the homes. By the way if you wish to study a neighborhood with a video camera, the timed intervals would be 10 to 30 seconds---not 10 minutes. Has anyone in this conference evaluated play or any other social activity in their cohousing or other kind of neighborhoods as yet? There must be some lurkers out there who have.
