Here's an effort to help connect what seems like a lot of unconnected individuals looking for cohousing developments in Chicago with some of those developments. I'm in California, but Chicago was my original home, so I stay in touch. Apparently the problem is that the groups in semi-formation aren't on line or at least not subscribed to cohousing-l, and perhaps their PR isn't so good either, though it is a big city ... Anyway, Hal Mead attended both the 1994 and 1995 Boulder conferences and has been involved awhile in trying to bring folks together for cohousing. He lives in Evanston and can be reached at (708) 869-8493. I know there's a group (my mother is a member) that's been meeting mostly in Evanston and has also looked at the soon-to-be-abandoned Glenview air base. Hal will know how to get you in touch. There's also a nearly complete small project, Harambee Cohousing, on the west side, built by and for a some low-income folks in the neighborhood. A member who was also at Boulder is Catherine Moore, day phone (312) 522-1500, evenings (312) 522-3026. And someone from a Woodlawn group did post an ambitious sounding plan here a few months ago. I replied with an inquiry but have heard nothing more. The name given then was Levy N. Rivers, email address: waldo [at] ais.net I hope this helps get some of you together.
