Mable Kinzie asks about frequency of meeting for a budding group looking for
a site. At Synergy COHO in South Florida we meet once a week, maybe because
we are impatient, maybe because we're crazy. Even though it can get to be a
burnout situation, we find that there are so many things to do that anything
less feels light. We also have teams which meet at least 2 times a month if
they need to. At this time we feel we have a real momentum and are concerned
about dropping it and potentially losing the interest of potential members.
There have been times when we weren't moving as quickly as we are now
(designing site and homes as well as active membership building). At those
times (usually during summer months) we often lightened our loads to 2 or 3
meetings a month.
Often what happens is someone can't make it to at least one of the 4 monthly
meetings or they need to step back a bit and have their Sundays to
themselves. We work at being open to everyone's needs. Nobody has gotten
upset with people at those times because we've all been there.
I think the most important thing is to be in touch with the needs of the
group and the needs of the project.
