Was "Consensus vs. Executive meetings." At RoseWind, the similar situation we have is choosing our 5 member Steering Committee. Staggered terms, but when we started, we needed 5. This year, just two were ending their terms. Nominating committee (two volunteers) asks each member two questions: If asked to serve, are you available to do so? (some declined, for various reasons) Who are all the people you wish to name that you'd be glad to have on the SC? Those thus named were tallied and rank ordered by how often they had been mentioned. Those unavailable were eliminated, and the top nominees of the rest of the list were proposed to the membership for confirmation. Or maybe there was a secret vote, with one or two more people than positions available. In any event, it worked out smoothly, since anyone proposed already was known to have broad support.
