One more note on the guns issue... While, as Steve noted, the legal system in the US has many layers of laws, its my non-lawyer understanding that ALL laws, including municipal, state and federal laws, are ultimately judgable by the US Constitution (a legacy of James Madison and his Federalist cohorts). This includes all laws on gun ownership. I would check the sources Steve gave to see what precendents have been set by the US Supreme Court. They've got the last word.
