>From Sandy, Steiner also said some very insightful things about community, the environment, and other things that relate to becoming a better person. I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water. Here at Heartwood we formed our own Waldorf inspired homeschool cooperative. We have two teachers and 11-13 kids. And it has been a great experience for the whole community. We use the common house during the day when it normally doesn't get a lot of use. Festivals are a big part of Waldorf education and the whole community gets involved with them. And there are people in the community that don't have kids that still have things to contribute to educating our kids that get to share that with the kids. All around it has made our community closer and richer. I have found people involved with Waldorf education to be by and large more tolerant of diversity and sensitive to the needs of each human as an individual than most other groups of people I have met. They are also very in tune with the environment like many cohousing communities are. I think it is an interesting idea that could work. I know that there is more dogma involved in partnering with an established Waldorf school than the kind of homegrown Waldorf inspired cooperative we have been involved in but I think it might be a nice match. It sure is nice for the kids to be able to walk to school and home and to have a built in community to share festivals and resources with.
