Live next door to Liz! Please.

There are two opportunities to become involved in Southside Park Cohousing,
in downtown Sacramento, CA. A house right next to our community, on 4th
Street, is available immediately for rental. The owner would be interested
in a lease, long-term if you desire. It is not a part of SSPCH, so I can't
guarantee that you would be allowed to participate fully in the community
without a consensus agreement, but there is ample precedent for allowing
nearby renters to become members and participate. Since we're currently at a
low ebb in numbers, I think people would not object to another person or two
cooking meals!

The upside to this is that you get to know us before making a big financial
and personal commitment to cohousing.

The house is a darling old 2-bedroom cottage, which has been completely
updated, with a new bathroom, kitchen and dishwasher, new carpeting and new
windows throughout. A huge tree in the front (west side) shades the house in
the summer, but there is also central heat and air. There is an original
built-in linen closet in the hallway outside the bathroom. One of the
bedrooms has doors to both the living room and hallway, and could be an
office, dining room, or both. The small back yard is adjacent to my own. The
rent is $1000/month. I've had several conversations with the owners, and
they are wonderful. They could probably get more money for the rental, but
are more interested in having a good relationship with the tenants and
finding responsible tenants than making a few more bucks. No pets.

This is a mostly quiet neighborhood. The neighborhood is gentrifying, but
retains its multi-ethnic charm.

Call or email me if you are interested in renting this house.

The other house is in cohousing proper, and will probably be an opportunity
to buy in a year. This is pretty much the only way anyone ever gets to buy
in our community-renting first. The house is the best one in our community,
IMO. It gets shade from the south and west in the summer, but sun in the
winter. It's an end unit, and has a lovely fireplace in the LR. Here is the
owner's spiel:

3+ Bedroom, 2 bath condo available for one year rental in Southside
Co-housing in downtown Sacramento. $1200/month. New hardwood floors, new
linoleum, new carpeting, new paint in a variety of colors. Whole house
fan, plus 3 ceiling fans. off-street parking. Small back yard with fruit
trees and deck.
