Soundproofing with Tectum

Hi,

At Great Oak, we have the "traditional" soaring dining room ceiling Chris
described. The peak is probably 18 feet high. (We budgeted ~10K for Tectum
upfront based on complaints we heard from other cohousing groups about noisy
dining rooms.) The Tectum isn't the most beautiful stuff in the world, but
ours is trimmed in clear-finished cedar, and from the ground you don't even
notice the Tectum. What you *do* notice is the quiet.

The soundproofing is almost too good, in that when we hold business meetings in
our dining room, we have to make more of an effort than some of us are used to
in order to be heard. But that beats the alternative, I think. Even with
10-20 kids at a typical dinner, our meals are generally peaceful, quiet affairs.
