I spent 20 years in the air force as a personal officer. Personal has a
lot to do with the movement of people form place to place. The air
force did a study on the effect of transfers on family members,
especially the children. What they found was that regardless of the
what the children felt about the move if the parents were positive about
it everybody ended up liking it. And if the parents were not positive
the opposite occurred.
I have yet to meet a child, 5 to 17, that would say "Yes" to moving away from the familiar to the unknown.
I have read articles on how to engage the children in the process instead of having the move imposed on them. Try a google search.
