After I wrote this concerning hot tubs, I remembered another planning issue: ongoing expenses and reserve studies. Start a spreadsheet and calculate ongoing operational & maintenance costs and eventual replacement costs. Research this on the web, at appliance stores that have good maintenance departments, and managers of condos in the area. All this stuff adds up, not just now but later. It keeps adding.
