Hi Ellen,

Sounds like it is time for you to talk to an attorney. Yep, that costs
money, too. Often you can have a free initial consultation; your
attorney stands to provide significant services to your organization
over time.

You do need to have some documentation describing what you are
planning (hoping) to do and disclosing the risks involved. Each person
putting money into the project should sign indicating they know and
accept those risks.
