We have five long rectangular tables that seat 8 and two square 4-tops, all made of wood. In terms of social interaction, there are usually either 2 or 3 separate conversations going on around the 8-tops - one at each end and maybe one in the middle. Our tables don't fold but the 5 long ones are lightweight and easily moved and we can set one upside down on top of another one. It hasn't been a problem for us when we need maximum floor space in the Great Room.
