Hello Marvin!

Welcome to the Cohousing-L. Happy to have you aboard!

From your posting seeking connection w/ others as you age… you are clearly
excited to find cohousing … I fear you may have caught the cohousing bug. It’s
incurable. Don’t fight it. :-)

I have taken the liberty of cutting and pasting your email into a new email to
start a new thread that will address your query directly. This way, instead
of mixing in w/ the previous thread on
65+ cohousing members organizing to address issues of aging in community … the
threads will be separate and trackable. It’s sometimes a little complicated
doing this as queries, desires, needs thoughts, experiences tend to overlap.
But since you have a query significantly different than the question posted by
Ed Sutton, a new posting will be more helpful.

After that long winded intro …

There are many resources available to seekers of cohousing. Suggest starting
with the book SENIOR COHOUSING by Charles Durrett. It’s the Bible of Senior
Cohousing. And also check out this resource:

http://www.cohousing.org

This website is maintained by The Cohousing Association of the United States or
CohoUS for short. There you will find a section on Senior Cohousing:

https://www.cohousing.org/senior-cohousing/

On this website, you will find a list of Senior Cohousing Communities — you can
see there are quite a number forming, building and established senior cohousing
communities. There are links to each community’s website.

Start w/ the book and website. Continue posting to this list w/ questions,
thoughts, suggestions.

Again, welcome aboard, Marvin. Buckle up for the ride!

Best —

Hi all,I am reaching out to you as I am new to thinking about co-housing and
got on a mailing list. You would be a great help in directing me to the right
people, if they are not you. Thanks in advance.
I am a retired psychotherapist, 83. I now live in San Francisco. I am in pretty
good health and totally independent. I am now without a partner, I am missing
connection. I like to shop and cook and manage my home pretty well. I now lead
a weekly support group for seniors, which might be useful as a facilitator. I
like to dance and could teach others. I like to help others. I do not have
assets for a large buy-in to a one-bedroom unit.
How would I go about finding a co-housing community that might be right for me
as I age and have additional needs? Are there settings beyond retirement
communities for me?
