We have USPS mailboxes with 9"x2"? slot mail boxes next to the
official mail boxes. Often have some sort of notice to share with
everyone, but also when we get the wrong mail we use that.

Then, across the coat room, cubes for each household--people use for
shoes, mittens, it's especially good for a potluck where you want to
stay and keep chatting, but get your dish out of the way for the
cleaners, for awhile I kept ping pong balls there since the kids like
to smash them and I wanted some that bounce.
The cubes also then are where to leave a book or a plant or a can of
pickles we are sharing with someone.
