I’m not a supreme composter but one tip:  We are in an urban area, very 
residential, but many large apt buildings have been replacing old commercial 
buildings. Whenever construction started, the rats would be displaced from the 
sites. There would be a lot of them, but they would go away after a few 
weeks/months. 

We follow the same guidelines of no animal products.

(Furnace filters also had to be changed more often because of the dust.)
