My current obsession is with developing software that will manage both the management, history, and daily functioning of cooperative communities and associations of all kinds. The most popular programs in current use are cobbled together from all the available options. In some communities this is working well, but I think it would be much better for developing communities to begin by using a software that will guide them in the advantages of having a communications platform that is fully accessible 24/7, transparent, and trustworthy. I set up another list for a discussion on what is needed and what is possible and to connect the people who are interested in working on this. Some members are coders and some just people who can type. Or people in the middle like me — I can talk to coders but cannot for the life of me warm up to memorizing any more languages. Please join this list if you are interested in a sometimes technical conversation about software possibilities and capabilities. It seems very odd that we don’t have a comprehensive program that is educational and enabling as well as empowering and useful. To join send a blank message to: communityrootcellar+subscribe [at] groups.io I’ve spent most of the last two weeks using Gather and Mosaic to learn more about what each program does and doesn’t do and to identify glitches and possibilities for the developers. And making lists of things communities need. It has been intense but I’m determined. The more people can share about what they use and what they wish they had, the more quickly we can move toward a solution or solutions that work for “most.” Sharon Villines ---- Dauren Musa, a Kazakh businessman who claims ownership over the Soviet-built space shuttle, Burya, is refusing to hand the keys over to Russia unless they trade him the actual skull of Kenesary Kasymov, a 19th-century Kazakh leader. — TheHustle.co
