We (CohoEcovillage in Corvallis) received an ad or invitation to join a Brazilian tour of cohousing communities in New England. Copy of part of the itinerary below. Photos from several cohousing websites of individuals, and write-ups that were probably taken from websites are included, I'm leaving photos off to make the file smaller. It just piqued a little suspicion here. I can read a little Portuguese, and the website seems legit, the tour looks a little fishy. Leela part of itinerary: AUTUMN JOURNEY TO COHOUSINGS IN NEW ENGLAND Visiting and Living with Cohousings in Massachusetts and Vermont 9/24 to 10/4/2023 – 11 days / 8 nights A journey through New England in the middle of autumn, with its landscapes of fallen leaves, where we will visit several cohousing communities, some urban, some suburban and some rural, in the states of New England (northeastern USA). We will experience activities with the cohousers, participate in conversations with different profiles of people, have dinner and lunch with various groups, in their moments of fellowship. Our itinerary begins in Boston, where, after checking in at the hotel and having lunch, we will take a tour of the beautiful and first Botanical Garden in the USA, created in 1837. In the late afternoon we will visit the first cohousing, Jamaica Cohousing. The next day we left for Amherst, where Cherry Hill Cohousing is located, our base for the next few days. Cherry Hill is one of the great references for us, and where the teachers of our 1st International Cohousing Course, such as Laura Fitch and Jerry Koch- Gonzalez, originated. At Cherry Hill we will be hosted by several people we already know. Gina Simm specializes in NVC, Non-Violent Communication, the subject of her book Grom Heart to Heart. Mary Krausz is an architect, and has designed several of the cohousings we'll visit. Lyons Witten is Laura Fitch's husband, and together with her he had been waiting for a history of great activism in their cohousing, since 23 years ago. Jerry Koch-Gonzalez is a specialist in sociocracy, having co-authored a reference book in the area, and was a professor/facilitator of the 1st International Cohousing Course. He speaks Spanish. John Porcino is a storyteller and singer. His profession began to emerge while participating in touching moments around a campfire – when life is seen through a sparkling light, surrounded by the magnificent beauty of the natural world. Henry the Juggler is an acrobat, tightrope walker and circus artist. We will have the opportunity to dine with the co-housers at their bi-weekly fellowship dinner. And we will offer, prepared by us, hands-on, a Brazilian dinner to the community. Building bonds, and looking forward to hosting some of the Cherry Hill members later in our cohousings in Brazil. Each of us will have the opportunity to approach the members who will best meet their expectations as individuals. We will spend our days participating in cohousing day-to-day activities, with its various groups, according to what was in the cohousings. After these days spent in Cherry Hill, we will travel to the state of Vermont. On the way we will have the opportunity to visit two cohousings, Rocky Hill Cohousing and Pathway Cohousing. Our destination for the end of that day is tiny Bristol, where Bristol Village Cohousing is located. There our host will be Jim Mendell, one of the founders of Bristol Village Cohousing and director of Cohousing US. Jim has been dedicated to training the concept of sociocracy with his group at Bristol Cohousing. We will live with the Bristol Village Cohousing community for two days, also having the opportunity to walk around this delightful little town in the middle of the mountains and enjoy and discover Bristol Falls. >From Bristol Village we will head to Mosaic Commons Cohousing in Berlin, MA, where we will be hosted by Stephanie Doss-Robertson. She is one of the founders of cohousing, having lived there since it opened in 2010. She is a social worker, and acts as vice-president of an association that supports people with mental disorders. In addition to Stephanie, several other people from cohousing will be welcoming us, ready to share their visions and experiences with us. Mosaic Commons has a sister community, Camelot Cohousing. Both are located opposite each other. We will have experiences in these two cohousings, with which we will be living for two days. >From Mosaic Commons we return to Boston, where we will have our last visit, to Cornestone Cohousing. And what better way to end our beautiful and inspiring journey than taking a stroll around the Harvard University campus in the afternoon. At the end of the day, we will head to Boston airport to board our flight back to São Paulo. * * * AUTUMN COHOUSINGS TO NEW ENGLAND JOURNEY ITINERARY SUN – 9/24 – SÃO PAULO / BOSTON MON – 9/25 – BOSTON – JAMAICA PLAINS COHOUSING TUESDAY – 9/26 – BOSTON / AMHERST – CHERRY HILL COHOUSING (formerly PIONEER VALLEY COHOUSING) WED - 9/27 - CHERRY HILL COHOUSING THU – 9/28 – CHERRY HILL COHOUSING FRI – 9/29 – CHERRY HILL – PATHWAY COHOUSING – ROCKY COHOUSING – BRISTOL COHOUSING (BRISTOL) SAT – 9/30 – BRISTOL COHOUSING SUN – 1/10 – BRISTOL – MOSAIC COMMONS COHOUSING (BERLIN) MON - 2/10 - MOSAIC COMMONS COHOUSING TUESDAY – 10/3 – MOSAIC COMMONS – BOSTON – CORNERSTONE COHOUSING / SÃO PAULO WED – 4/10 – ARRIVAL IN SÃO PAULO *Those who pre-register for the trip will have the opportunity to stay with cohousers in selected communities.
