A rather extensive article in Fast Company about the Sears house that would cost $32,000 today, if only — one of the problems is in how the industry coordinates itself — or doesn’t coordinate. With a kit putting together all the parts, the factory can coordinate all the parts dependably over time. Materials are more expensive and the zoning and building codes are more complicated. No one could design a kit that could be built just anywhere or even in most places because there are so many local requirements. Just getting all the permits is complicated. The article is worth the read anyway? https://www.fastcompany.com/90929404/a-sears-house-today-should-cost-32000-why-cant-you-buy-one And there is one for sale: Sears House in Ohio for $170,000 https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/452-Elberta-Rd-Vermilion-OH-44089/34529138_zpid/ Sharon ---- Sharon Villines Takoma Village Cohousing, Washington DC http://www.takomavillage.org
