That's us Mac! I'm excited about your interest in researching intentional communities in Blue Zones. Greek Village Cohousing is essentially located in a Blue Zone, and every time I visit our land, I feel its health benefits all around me. While Ikaria is the official Blue Zone in Greece, our region shares the same longevity-promoting characteristics and similar longevity. Our rich agricultural region eats the Mediterranean diet the world attempts to emulate, with anti-inflammatory foods and world-class olive oil at every meal, combined with daily physical activity and most of all - strong social bonds embedded in the cultural DNA. Greek culture's emphasis on social interaction is unlike anything in North America I've experienced. Daily coffees with each other is the norm. Everyone in the family comes out at night to Taverna for long conversations into the night - every night. There is a holiday practically twice a month that everyone takes off and celebrates with family. Even professional meetings often take place in cafes. The geography encourages walking, often up steeper hills than in many places in the US, and the object of a walk is often coffee with a friend. Nobody asks you what you do, but they love to pick you up and drive to the sea or mountains on the weekends and just sit and eat good food. I've had more social outings in my 6 months here than I've had in two years in the US. Greeks' focus on social bonds is deeply embedded in their enjoyment of life and culture. I go on and on about this because I am enthralled with Blue Zones and happy villagers in Greece who live long and good lives- - my particular "study" is not about intentional communities is this Blue Zone--- It is about what Blue Zones can teach intentional communities. Our goal at Greek Village Cohousing is to put ourselves in the middle of this, emulate it, and learn from it. Come do experiential study with us! Come to our July 28th big party, or join us in September for our ground breaking party. I'll introduce you to some intentional communities here in Greece if you like, and you can take one of Diane Kochilas' famous cooking classes in Ikaria and meet the villagers. I would love to meet you in person after learning so much from you over the years, so consider coming to our Blue Zone! -Pare Greek Village Cohousing On Fri, Jun 7, 2024 at 4:22 PM Mac Thomson via Cohousing-L < cohousing-l [at] cohousing.org> wrote: > I have an idea for an article that I’d like to get published in magazines > and/or major newspapers.
