high-VOC paint primers, or cats.  “Carpet” (wall-to-wall rolls or tiles) has 
some advantages, including competitive cost.  All floor surfacing benefits from 
regular care, like (re)sealing or “waxing” or steam extraction.  I don’t have 
strong opinions about hired services versus do-it-yourself … except that being 
unable to agree, and therefore not doing anything, is a curse in cohousing.
