Hopefully, the telecommuting possibilties in cohousing (and the world in g geeneral) will be becoming generally acceptable. I now live in NJ and will in the very near future be moving up to EcoVillage at Ithaca, NY, about a 4 hour drive. I have a computer consulting/programming company (myself & my wife), and our plan is to service our current NJ/NYC customers via modem/ fax/phone with occasional trips back down to glorious New Jersey. Tried it a couple years ago by renting an apartment for a month, installing a few phone lines, hauling up our gear and getiing down to business. It seemed to work fine. I only needed to make one trip back, and even that could have been avoided had the client called about his "big" problem at 4:45PM instead of at 5:15PM. Several of us cybernerds at EcoVillage (5 or 6 of us) are planning to wire the entire community for damn near everything (think we can convince those on very limited incomes of the value of becoming a node on the net?). Are other CoHo communities electronically networking their homes? Granted, it's a little less personal, warm & fuzzy than face-to-face, dinner-at-the- common-house interaction. Ever try to dance with a keyboard & monitor? Sorry for not referencing the original message that brought up telecommuting, but I was a little quick with the "delete", and a little too impatient to go back to the archives...
