As I'm sure everyone else has already suggested (Compuserve is slow), "Digest"
mode is the only way to go.

Regarding your question of List content, personally, I'm very pleased.  I love
this list.  It has an ebb and flow;  if you get cranked on a topic, the List
will go with you;  if somebody else hits on something hot, the List will go in
that direction.  So once you get in Digest mode, just post what you're
interested in, and I think you will find it rewarding.

Although I am also trying to figure out how to create community, I have not
found the List to be more philosophical than expected.  For example, I spent a
few hours today researching composting toliets;  I could really use some help on
this "nuts and bolts" issue, but didn't feel this was the place to ask (I might
have been wrong at that also).
