Cats and dogs are domestic creatures and largely belong in your house or in a fenced-in yard/run -- not only for the good of native wildlife, but for their own good. If you intend to have them somewhere else, you should have a way of both controlling and defending them. (I have seen some not-too-pretty examples and photos of what native wildlife has done to cats and dogs.)
