I've been thinking about commenting on this thread and I waited long 
enough that Mike's restatement pretty well reflects my point of view
so I'll just second it.

By the way,  the main reason I see for keeping some focus is the
information overload problem.  It was mentioned that we have around 
500 subscribers (actually we have been at a plateau just under 500
for a while now - the number of new subscribes and the number of 
unsubscribes are about equal lately).  What has been growing is 
the number of messages and number of bytes per month.  We could handle
a very large number of lurkers but the increasing volume is a probleme 
for many people.  Keeping the discussion focused can help with that 
problem.

In the longer run I hope that a new more general list on "Intentional 
Communities" or "Building Community" will get started by someone.  
If one does it will surely get announced here.  If anyone is 
interested in helping start such a list, send me or mike a note.
