Bill Duncan is right. For any application in which the light will typically be on for two or more hours at a time, compact fluorescent lights is the way to go. These days they come in a variety of sizes, shapes, etc. Yesterday I saw an ad for a 1 watt bulb! I have thoroughly investigated the cost-effectiveness of compact fluorescent lights compared to incandescant lights. It turns out that the important factor is the cost of electricity. So even if the incandescent bulbs are free, their operations still cost a lot more than the compact fluorescent bulbs! Nearly all of the bulbs in our apartment are compact fluorescent bulbs. I have been able to confirm all the claims made about them. I have several years of operational experience, and so far none have burned out yet. Bill Dean
