There's been a bit of discussion lately about cohousing in Durango so I
thought I'd comment. There are at least 2 groups in the area working to
create cooperative neighborhoods. Tim Hueser has already spoken about the
Shining Mountain Cooperative mobile home project.

I'm the project manager with San Juan Cohousing, which is in the process of
looking for land and members. So far we have 19 Associate Member households
and are learning a lot about local real estate development, but have yet to
get under contract for a piece of land. We're planning on developing along
fairly traditional cohousing lines, except that we'll be rural community
hoping to set aside 80 acres in open space, our organization is based on a
project manager model, and we intend to develop using the lot development
model.

We are cooperative in spirit, but we'll probably end up in a condominium type
legal structure.

Drop me a line if you'd like more info.
