I understand what you are saying. I also have family members spread over 10
miles radius, and I suppose my husband and I can find a suitable house  in
the middle so that we can be closer and visit more often than we do, but it's
not likely because we all have such different schedules and our interests
vary. However, I think you made the right decision based on the info
provided. It's much better to choose walking over driving; it's much better
to live near where you work and form a community there rather than a
cohousing community in suburbia miles from where you work.
